Netball is a popular girls’ activity offered at Laerskool Van Dyk Primary. Netball is a game that requires team work like no other. From goalpost to goalpost every member of the team is needed to be successful. The overriding vision of Netball at Laerskool Van Dyk Primary is to ignite in each player a passion for the game that will continue long into their adult life. As girls start to develop this passion, it is inevitable that their skills will improve.

We strive to source the best coaches who suit not only the ethos of the school but have their own passion for the game.

Many of our players progress to regional and provincial trials. In 2019 the U/13 B team won the Boksburg league and the U/13 A team was runners-up in the league.

Age Groups
Netball is offered to seven age groups of players. Our school offers mini-netball for the U/7, U/8 & U9 girls and netball for the U10, U11, U12 and U13 girls. An A and B team, per age group, is entered into the league. Our girls are taught the necessary hand, ball and foot skills that allow them to partake in various tournaments and school matches. Development of netball skills takes place and players must be ‘on top of their game’ if they would like to be included in the one of the official league teams.

Times, Venues, Practices and Matches
Netball practices are held on school grounds. Days and times of these practices vary according to age group – please consult the Term programme for details. Matches are held at Laerskool Van Dyk Primary for ‘home’ games or at the opposition team’s grounds for ‘away’ matches. Players are transported to and from venues by school transport if parents are not able to assist in this regard.
The first official netball event of the season is the Netball Trials that take place at the end of the first term. The official league season begins in Term 2 and continues to the middle of Term 3.

Clothing and Equipment
Netball practice requires players to wear the official school PT kit. Laerskool Van Dyk Primary provides match kit for the players at official tournaments and league matches. Players are required to provide the following: netball takkies and socks.
